A Ray of Hope

oboe, piano

2015

Premiered by Tracy McLaughlin Jaskot and Matthew Jaskot on October 11, 2015 in Portland, CT

About the Piece

This piece was composed for and premiered at my daughter Ainsley's baptism and in the aftermath of my son Brayden being stillborn.

A rAy of Hope is filled with optimism and brightness, notably emitted by the uplifting oboe melody and the steady pulse in the piano.  A contrasting middle section might be considered as backward looking, a little bit darker in its content before the bright, optimistic sounds of the opening return.

This piece can be paired with The Color of a Rose, in which case, it should be played second in the set.
